Genesis

Kendriya Vidyalaya Kalimpong first came into being in 1985 to serve the basic educational purpose of the children of the military personnel posted at the station and to quench the thirst of education of the mountainous people in general. The Vidyalaya started in a temporary building near Engineer Chowk in two blocks with a total of four classrooms. Later the school building was shifted near Gumba Ground, Div Chowk and the Vidyalaya was elevated to class X on demand. In the year 2010, the Vidyalaya was cleared by CBSE to have its first higher secondary batch in Science and Humanities streams. Since then, Kendriya Vidyalaya Kalimpong has been operating in the same place with thousands of passed-out students serving the nation. As of today, the Vidyalaya has nearly five hundred students studying under its aegis.
