Kendriya Vidyalaya Kalimpong was established in 1985 to fulfill the basic educational objective of the children of the military personnel posted at the station and to meet the educational needs of the mountain people in general. The school initially started in a temporary building near Engineer Chowk with a total of four classrooms in two blocks. Later, the school building was relocated to Gumba Ground, near Deo Chowk, and gradually expanded to Class 10 to strengthen the student population. In 2010, the school was granted approval by the CBSE to host its first higher secondary batch in Science and Humanities, and since then, Kendriya Vidyalaya Kalimpong has operated at the same location. On 04.02.2025, Kendriya Vidyalaya Kalimpong completed its regular building (A-1 Type) near the Army Hospital, East Main Road. The school currently operates in its regular building, with thousands of students graduating from here engaged in serving the nation. Currently, the school has approximately 500 students studying in the school and pursuing their holistic development.
